CLAWS OF DEATH – CAN DO WITH OR WITHOUT SPLEEN

Spleen is our body’s sieve. It filters the blood of all impurities and micro organisms, it also produces a type of white blood cells which fights the microbes. Thus, Spleen acts as our defense mechanism to diseases.

Sometimes the Spleen goes in to super speed mode, filtering even the essential red blood cells, platelets etc.

The net result, the Spleen which occupies one hundredth of the abdominal cavity becomes enlarged and protrudes out.

Enlarged Spleen traps and stores extra blood cells and platelets. This leads to decrease of blood cells and platelets in the bloodstream. This starves the supply of oxygen and nutrients to all the organs and weakens the person and in extreme case will lead to multiple organ failure and is life threatening.

Usually removal of the Spleen is the remedy to this problem.

A little boy Karthick, aged 5, had an enlarged Spleen. He was turned down by many centers as he was too young and it was required great skill to remove the Spleen .

Kartick underwent the surgery Laparoscopically,(key hole), at Life Line Hospital, Perugudi, Chennai.

In the Post operative ward he was caught with his father who was struggling to keep him in the bed.

Joke

A wife was making a breakfast of fried eggs for her husband. Suddenly her husband burst into the kitchen.

"Careful. CAREFUL! Put in some more butter! Oh my GOD! You're cooking too many at once. TOO MANY! Turn them! TURN THEM NOW! We need more butter. Oh my GOD! WHERE are we going to get MORE BUTTER? They're going to STICK! Careful. CAREFUL! I said be CAREFUL! You NEVER listen to me when you're cooking! Never! Turn them! Hurry up! Are you CRAZY? Have you LOST your mind? Don't forget to salt them. You know you always forget to salt them. Use the salt. USE THE SALT! THE SALT!"

The wife stared at him. "What the heck is wrong with you? You think I don't know how to fry a couple of eggs?"

The husband calmly replied, "I just wanted to show you what it feels like when I'm driving."
