Dear readers,
This story was narrated to me by my mother.
There were two friends living in a village, once a fairy granted a boon to both the friends and said, ‘I shall provide you with a bag of rice and a cow’.
Accepting it, both friends departed.
After a few years one of the friends became prosperous and wealthy, whereas the other friend who came to visit him was in penury.
The poor friend enquired to the rich about the reason for his prosperity.
The rich friend said, ‘The boon’.
The poor friend looked bewildered. The boon only granted them a cow and a bag of rice, and he wondered how that could make his friend rich.
The friend explained saying that the fairy had granted us a bag of rice and a cow, so each day the rice in excess to what my family required was distributed to the needy and the remaining rice and the cow was sold at the market.
The next day he would have another bag of rice and a cow in his courtyard.
The poor friend on the contrary ate a few morsels each day as the bag had to last for his life time, even the cow was malnourished.
