CLIPPINGS – A FOND RECALL

After recalling my interview in 2000, in the last issue I was really amused and pleased with myself. Yes! I am proud that we have achieved what we aspired almost a decade ago! Now I wish to share a few recalls from the   recently published article in the January 2009, issue of ‘Express Health Magazine’, only to motivate many youngsters with a big and burning desire to become successful and to follow their passion. I believe that a real life example motivates many more times than thousands of motivating words.

My journey was never smooth. I have toiled day and night; shed my sweat and blood to reach here today, taking both brickbats and bouquets with equanimity.

A few recollection from the interview (Express Health Magazine, January 2009 issue)

He started his entrepreneurial journey by setting up RIGID Hospitals private limited at New Avadi Road in Kilpauk in 1997. The hospital was named after his physician grand father’s name Rajarathinam. The hospital was started with 25 beds and gastro enterology was the only speciality dealt with in the beginning.

Due to overwhelming reponse, there was an urgent compulsion to expand to other specialities as well. Now, RIGID hospital is a tertiary care hospital which can handle any number of complex cases”, says he. Soon, the hospital would be expanded to 150 bed hospital.Toady, the hospital offers speciality services in  urology, orthoaedics,ENT,psychiatry, paediatrics, oncology, dermatologyand ophthalmology. The super- speciality services are offered in gastroenterology, neurology and cardio vascular with high end equipment and state- of-the art technology.

“We wanted a hospital group which would reflect the DNA of friendliness, flexibility and warmth”, says he.He took loan from the Bank for building Lifeline Multi Speciality Hospital at Old Mahabalipuram Road. ‘Later sold our estates, flats, real estates—nearly everything we had! But I would do it all over again if need be’, he says confidently. Today , it has 15 Corporate Medical Centres, one tertiary care hospital and three secondary care hospital to its credit. Started with just 25 beds, the Group has more than 500 beds.

The fear of acceptance by doctors as a businessman and by a business community as a doctor were his fears.

“Some of the unkindest cuts came from within! I am still learning to be objective and clinical rather than emotional about judging managers” he states.

“There is no substitute for hard work. Don’t lose sight of your final objective”, he suggests.

I am just running the Marathon of life without looking back, just taking a few breaks like this to get recharged to run my BEST and complete it.
