CLAWS OF DEATH - WILL I EAT?

Most of us would agree clogging of any passage is the worst nightmare ever??? Be it the road or your drain pipe, if things don't pass smoothly, it wreaks havoc.

Then imagine, if one had a clogged food pipe. Indeed Nazeema, aged 32 years, belonging to a small village in Nellore district, had a food pipe or the esophagus which was constricted, the passage was almost closed due to accidental ingestion of caustic soda solution. She could hardly eat or drink. A couple of times, the food pipe was dilated mechanically, but it was of no use.

Nazeema, through a referral by a well-wisher, met Dr. J.S. Rajkumar who immediately promised to end her agony. The esophagus was removed and her stomach was partly drawn and shaped to serve as a food pipe. The surgery was done laparoscopically without any blood loss.

After an intense care for nearly 30 - 45 days at the hospital, now Nazeema, after a span of 2 years had a taste of food. At one point of time, she gave up hope that she will be able to eat like others. It is indeed, a milestone in medical history that such a complex surgery was performed laparoscopically.

Joke

A couple, desperate to conceive a child, went to their priest and asked him to pray for them. "I'm going on a sabbatical to Rome," he replied, "and while I'm there, I'll light a candle for you."

When the priest returned three years later, he went to the couple's house and found the wife pregnant, busily attending to two sets of twins. Elated, the priest asked her where her husband was so that he could congratulate him. "He's gone to Rome, to blow that candle out" came the harried reply.
