Vital Procedure - Single Incision Laproscopic Surgery (SILS)
It is a new technique of surgery in which an incision is made through the Navel (intra umbilical - usually an incision of 12mm is made). A spindle like structure which has 3 or 4 ports is inserted. It can be called a belly button after it is fitted in position, as it looks like a closed button inserted in your belly. Through these ports articulating or bent instruments are inserted to perform the surgery. This technique requires higher skill, precision, and patience too, as the surgeon has to work with his hands crossed, like a pair of scissors. We have so far performed 30 surgeries which includes the removal of appendix, Gall Bladder, Uterus and the ovarian cyst. It was even used in an emergency for removal of a bleeding ovarian cyst. Bariatric surgery (Fat Surgery), which involves the narrowing of stomach, and reduction in the absorptive area, can be done through this technique. This procedure combined with nerve blocking anesthesia, administered locally, makes the surgery not only scar less, but also painless. The patients are stable and are able to move within a few hours after the surgery. The cost is also comparable to that of a multi-port Laparoscopic surgery. Most patients are discharged the very next day!!! This is a new milestone in the surgical procedures, and we are proud to be among the first few centers in the country to perform SILS. |
